ASTROLOGY / HOROSCOPE LIST

                   You're here! Welcome.

We are the Karakul Private Trust, part of an oracular research tradition established many decades ago by scholars and adventurers whose secret journeys have helped to unearth much more than dusty relics and half-believed legends in far-away places.

Among this long thin line of discoverers are those who have always sought the ancient truths that lay hidden within the myriad artifacts, ruins, religions, cultures, histories, and myths that have engendered so much achievement, turmoil, passion and fear down through the millennia.  We seek truths that have revealed themselves on the slow and troubled journey so far through the nine past ages of Man.

Our mission is to seek and understand the deep knowledge that drives humanity upward.  Our research strives to yield a better understand of the true engines of  human history and to increase our grasp of the fundamental and cryptic themes that empower mankind's spiritual and cultural evolution.

This is a new project for us, an increasingly comprehensive listing of the best astrology / horoscope Web sites that we've seen online.  We will add, update and delete links as needed.  Among the many sites included on this list are those that we particularly appreciate for their approach, thoroughness, and content - we encourage you to discover them for yourself.   We also wish to gratefully acknowledge the work of many people who have compiled such online lists over the past ten years. This metalist of astrology and horoscope sites isn't complete by any means, but we're working hard to give you one of the most comprehensive sources on the Web.

Why a list of astrology and horoscope links?  Because it is very useful.  Understood and used properly, these sites can help reveal insights; they are powerful (and potentially dangerous) tools for your own spiritual growth - and they are far more potent change agents than meets the eye.  Use them in the spirit of enlightened self-discovery - rationally, carefully, and objectively.

Astrology is a highly useful tool, but not an infallible guide. Nor is it a "religion" in the traditional sense, but rather a perspective on living more effectively.  To paraphrase:

  • Joseph Campbell: "If you can see the path before you, it's not yours.  You make your own path through life with every step you take."
  • JP Morgan - "Millionaires don't use Astrology.  Billionaires do."  What was true a century ago is even more so today.

Astrology is one of many such tools, of course. Prayer, meditation, structured analysis, joyous work... and love are also invaluable to successful living. And remember:  "...the stars may point a way forward; they do not compel."  Your karma is still and always your own responsibility. So we invite you to discover, use and enjoy these tools wisely, and along the way meet the talented people who have created them. We sincerely hope they can help make your life's journey clearer - and perhaps easier.

You can browse the lists below or use the search box below to find documents and links in this Web site that may contain specific words or combinations of words of interest. The text search engine will display a weighted list of matching documents, with better matches shown first. Each list item is a link to a matching document; if the document has a title it will be shown, otherwise only the document's file name is displayed. We are of course indebted to the many professionals, existing link collections, and individual Web sites on these topics, and without the major search engines, none of this would be possible.

A Brief History of Timeless Truths

Astrology is the study of human complexity at the individual, tribal, and global levels. As it is practiced today by Western, Vedic and Chinese adepts, it is firmly rooted in our history.  Every significant religion - without exception - has held, lost, rediscovered, used, condemned, struggled with, adopted, and ultimately embraced occult beliefs, including aspects of astrology within its credo.  After all, the three Magi who gifted Jesus were astrologers, as were many leading figures in the Mosaic, Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, and other Eurasian cultures. One example of ancient astrological findings is the Egyptian horoscope at left (found by Napoleon's army in 1799).

Why is Astrology resurgent today?  Perhaps it's because this and other occult traditions are successfully filling an immense spiritual void, not just in the "decadent" West, but throughout the world and in every socio-economic class.

No longer truly an "occult" or "hidden" system of tools, techniques and beliefs, Astrology and its related disciplines are increasingly popular today because they actually do help this void of realistic hope and faith in a better life in the here-and-now; and also because they are grounded in better truths based on practical experience, with thousands of years of tested, refined results, and not just recycled tribal myths.

From its distant African origins, horoscopes, oracles, runes and precognition have been a part of our human beliefs for so long that their early histories are lost. A few of the most primitive celestial artifacts have been suggestively dated as early as 35,000 BCE.  Some marine archaeological research may even indicate that submerged archaic sites along the coasts of Africa, Asia, and Europe could be tens of thousands of years earlier than this.

To gain a better appreciation for the impacts of past ice ages, changing sea-levels, and global warming on prehistoric human settlement and migration, look at the coastlines of the major continents.  Google Earth is a wonderful tool for this: pay particular attention to the vast submerged plains (less than 500 ft depth) located just offshore of large rivers and natural bays.  Archaic (and now-submerged) cultures would likely have chosen these places, then above water, to settle and thrive.  New underwater exploration technologies and growing interest in marine archaeology will surely yield dramatic finds in the decades to come.

The evolution of today's complex horoscope can be traced from the earliest indistinct occult relics possibly more than 50,000 years old in Africa and South Asia.  The trail leads very faintly from there to Sumer, pre-Vedic India, early pre-Han China, Egypt, and eventually to Greece, Rome and the West.    Even earlier, prehistoric sites in Europe (Avebury, Stonehenge, Malta) show an unexpected sophistication with regard to their knowledge of astronomy, engineering, and social organization.  Astrology flourished during the Renaissance and by the end of the 16th Century, many of the great European scientists were first and foremost astrologers:

As the art (and it is an "art," not yet a "science") of the horoscope developed over the millennia, parallel evolutionary threads also extended through India, Tibet and into China. In pre-Columbian America, the Olmec, Maya, Inca, Anazazi and other cultures developed highly sophisticated astrological systems that are still poorly understood.

The rise of 19th Century "Science" led to widespread abandonment of this and other occult traditions.  Evangelical fundamentalisms of many flavors, deeply rooted themselves in ancient myths and misperceptions, further drove astrological research underground in the last century.  But recently, bleeding-edge scientific inquiry and rising disillusionment with the traditional belief systems has opened the door to deeper understandings and different viewpoints.

We now know that the universe we inhabit (including our own minds) is far more complex and less well-understood that we ever imagined.  Ours' is not a mechanistic, well-ordered "clockwork" universe.  Rather, it is a fluid, chaotic quantum marvel, abundant in curious synchronicities - and an evergreen source of unending wonder.  The personal quest by so many for deeper and more useful spiritual insight into who we are and why we exist has renewed interest in these ancient and valuable tools.

In both ancient artifacts and modern scientific inquiry, one can trace the development of core ideas and techniques that seasoned astrologers would be quite familiar with today.  Astrology has been practiced for as long as men and women have looked into the heavens and pondered their future.  If this ancient discipline had yielded no real and enduring value to our distant ancestors, it would have long-since vanished.  But it did not.  It's intrinsic value (whether mere psychology or something far deeper) and practical utility are intuitively recognized by millions today.

Today, the latest computer-generated horoscope charts and online readings, as well as the traditional (and to us, still preferable) in-person discussion between a skilled astrology professional and an informed client both make use of this ancient science of human behaviour.  The stars and planets continue to influence us far more deeply than most people realize.  Modern science does not yet have a framework that can hold astrology, although quantum mechanics, gravitational corridors, and Jung's synchronicity principle hold promise for the future.
